Chic or Eek: Michelle Obama’s Balayage?
Before there was Ombre, there was Balayage. The newest convert to this French highlighting technique from the 70s, Michelle Obama, looked gorgeous last Tuesday at the the screening of The Powerbroker: Whitney Young’s Fight For Civil Rights with her soft curls and scattered highlights (and don’t even get us started on that mixed print dress she’s sporting by Duro Olowu-total stunner).
Balayage is a process where the stylist hand paints highlights onto the hair, starting lightly at the top and then adding thicker coats towards the bottom. The goal is a gradual and delicate lightening of the hair, similar to what the sun would do naturally in the summer. One big positive about this type of color treatment, is that you only really need to update the look every 3-6 months. What do you think ladies; would you Balayage?
